evaluation

Our performance took place at Nescot College on the 26th May 2019, we performed a show called ‘People, Places and Things’ which is all based in a rehabilitation centre and is all about addiction. Throughout the process of the show, it was not only physically but mentally draining as well, since it was a physical theatre piece but also it is an eye opener at what people can actually struggle with.

Overall, I believe our performance went really well, in my opinion it wasn’t the best we had run it but it was still very good and something I am proud to say I took part in, I’d say my strengths throughout the show was keeping on top of what I needed to do and staying focussed throughout.

We had been told we were getting graded on the following;

  1. professionalism- time keeping, communication skills, organisation, keeping to deadlines, correct uniform, posistive responses.
  2. responses to direction
  3. communication with director
  4. acting ability
  5. vocal ability
  6. positive relationships with peers.

Personally, I believe that my time keeping was always very sharp and if I was given a specific time or task it would be completed, which will also link to my organisation and keeping to deadlines. I took a very good turn to my responses to direction and would get on with it if it was set to me. my communication with my director was strong because if I felt I needed help or I didn’t quite understand I would always feel comfortable asking Leanne what I needed to do.

I think that our strengths as an ensemble was that we were all able to bring our own stories alive and make it realistic throughout, it was clear that we looked into our characters and became them individually.

As an ensemble, we needed to work on timing especially when putting down the chairs when coming on for the therapy scene,, since we were all meant to stand in front of the chair then all sit down together but everyone always seemed to go down at different time, also I’d work on when we were moving to different chairs in the dark, it did look ascetically pleasing but we needed to practice that more to prefect it.

I feel for my character my individual strengths was that I had good character traits such the shaking of my leg, since it is known as a coping mechanism and a distraction, some people can develop a severe form of alcohol withdrawal that can cause a severe shaking, which I believe can clearly see that I looked into my character.

To improve in my individual areas, I could add more emotion throughout the sentimental parts in my monoluge.

If I could change the show as a whole I would change the casting list, I feel that if people were different roles they would be able to push themselves fully.

If we had an unlimited budget, I would make the set more ‘normal’ since we had the idea of having a more ‘clinical’ scenery which is a good idea but realistically after looking at ‘The Primrose Lodge centre’ it is exactly like a real place so I would get pictures on the wall, a few flower pots to make it more homely.
